We’re trying to build a house for our cats. People say we should just get a scratching post with a little bed on the side, but we’re determined to give them their own space that’s away from us humans.
We’ve already picked out the wood, cat beds, cat wall decor, even the color of the paint which we read somewhere appeals to cats (I thought they didn’t have good eyesight when it comes to color?). We plan to place it somewhere in between the garage and the backyard, so the cats can be close enough to the door if they want to get in.
You might be excused for thinking that only long-haired cats require regular grooming. While it’s true that those fluffy furballs need to be groomed to avoid knots and tangles in their hair, short-haired cats can benefit from brushing as well. A Siamese or tabby cat with short hair should be brushed with a standard grooming brush. Longer-haired cats call for a bit more time and attention.
Cats are prone to shedding, and if they are left unbrushed they can develop matted fur with a greasy consistency. Even though cats naturally lick themselves clean several times a day, they still need a helping hand from their owners, which is why you should have a supply of cat grooming tools. Use a special grooming comb to work mats out of the fur; this technique is preferable to snipping with scissors as you risk cutting your pet. Cat grooming is easy and hassle free as long as you do it on a regular basis.
There are many ways to accessorize your bird cages and make them feel more at home. Not only will these bird cage accessories provide a visual appeal, but they will also keep the bird—and you—entertained. With their capability of flight, a bird ladder may seem superfluous in a bird cage.
Bird ladders, in fact, provide ideal entertainment for your feathered friend. Many ladders are made from natural rope and wood, which birds love to climb on and play with. This also provides a variety of textures, which will be the bird engaged. The ladder provides an additional perch in the cage as well.
Pet owners are drawn to birds for any number of reasons. There’s the coveted ability to fly, of course, and the fact that many domesticated birds boast a colorful majesty. However, people often purchase parrots and other birds for the purpose of companionship. While it’s true that birds require some work and attention, the payoff is certainly worth the trouble.
When selecting a cage for your pet, there are several factors to consider, beginning with size. A large bird cage will provide your parrot with plenty of room to stretch his wings and strut across a perch. Steel cages are mostly preferred over wood because they are easy to clean and much more durable. Also, be sure to look for cages that feature a pull-out tray at the bottom. This will make cleanup much simpler and less unpleasant. If the room you are putting the cage in has lots of light and foot traffic, you may want to consider bird cage covers as well.
Climbing is second nature to cats, and even the youngest kittens will want to test their skills on the nearest tree. Our precious pets often like to perch where they don’t belong, such as on the tops of bookcases and dressers, where fragile objects are easily broken. That is why it is so important for every cat to have a place where she can scratch, climb, perch, play and even sleep. Thus, we need to have cat trees.
Cat trees are the most common cat furniture that every cat owner should have. Cat trees are taller than cat scratching posts, and not only do they offer a scratching surface, but real amusement and spaces where they can climb up and come down all day. You can save hair from being deposited on your furniture and keep your cat from clawing it at the same time. Cat trees came in a variety of styles, heights and colors, so let the space for your cat tree and cat’s needs be your guide.
Any cat owner knows that cat toilet training is just the tip of the iceberg when it comes to controlling feline stenches. Odors from the cat’s litter box and the entire location where the litter box is located are commonplace for most pet owners. Though it’s impossible to remove all of the odor emanating from a cat litter pan, it is possible to reduce it. This can be achieved through odor eliminating sprays (be sure to find a spray that is specifically states it is an ‘odor eliminator,’ otherwise you might just be masking the spray). You might also consider an air purifier in an area near the litter pan. Odor is caused by miniscule particles floating around in the air; an air purifier will act to remove these particles and thus remove the odor. Certain cat litters will also do more to mask the scent, it’s best to try out several and find which one works best.
If your cat can’t find its litter box one day because you’ve removed the smell, you will know you have succeeded!
When it comes to choosing dog beds, you want the bed to match the personality and tastes of your refined canine. Naturally, a large dog bed for a Golden Retriever would be a much different bed than one for a cute little Papillion. You should always browse designer pet beds when selecting a bed for your dog. If you have a Chihuahua, you might choose a cute little sofa pet bed in an adorable color like pink. For bigger dogs, you might have a metal dog bed that will provide support for their larger frame.
The possibilities are endless when it comes to pet beds, and remember: more than the dog’s choice, it’s your choice! Dogs can be a little bit picky about where they sleep, but in general if you like a bed and it’s comfortable for them to lie there, they will like it too! Don’t be shy about buying something unique!
Bringing your new kitten home is exciting for the whole family. Before bringing the new baby home however, it’s important to make sure you have all the cat supplies needed to make your kitten comfortable in his/her new home. Cats don’t need fancy feather beds or jeweled collars; they just need a few basic supplies. Here are some things you will need:
1.) Kitten food
2.) Litter box with low sides and a cat litter mat
3.) Brush
4.) Cat carrier
5.) Lots of love
When you’re thinking about getting a pet bird, you should know how to tell a healthy bird from a sick bird. Here are some things to watch out for when you’re picking out a bird from the pet store.
~Avoid birds that look tired, sit hunched at the bottom of their bird cages, have droopy feathers, or are hiding their heads underneath their wings.
~Make sure the bird isn’t sneezing excessively and check that it doesn’t have discharge from its nostrils. It’s also not a good sign if the bird has droppings hanging from its tail feathers.
~Bright eyes, shiny feathers and an energetic demeanor are all signs of good bird health.
Let’s face it, we all like to have our dogs with us wherever we go, but often unattended dogs can get into trouble. Whether outdoors in the backyard, or relaxing at the beach, a portable dog crate is an excellent option. While portable dog crates can’t house dogs of all sizes, most are effective with small and medium sized dogs. Having a portable dog crate also eliminates the need to have the dog tied up, and we all know how dogs always find away to entangle themselves! It’s possible to find portable dog crates in a wide range of sizes suited for most dogs, and portable dog crates can also be used for other pets including cats, rabbits, and chickens. For travel and camping, portable dog crates are ideal for pets that like to spend time outdoors near their owners.
Depending on the model, some portable dog crates can be attached to each others and used to form a more substantial fence. This is ideal for owners who have open backyards, and want their pets to be able to go outdoors but not escape from the yard.
